WW Ocean Soars with Helicopter Shipment
11 July, 2018
WW Ocean has transported an Airbus AS350 helicopter from Brunswick, Georgia to the port of Southampton in the UK on behalf of Helicopters International Shipping Services (HISS).
The helicopter flew into the terminal at Brunswick before it was loaded aboard the ro-ro vessel for transport across the Atlantic.
Although one standard 40 ft (12.19 m) long roll trailer was suitable to hold the large helicopter for transport, the loading process required a larger surface area.
Jeff Trask, account manager for WW Ocean, explained: “We secured three roll trailers side-by-side to create a total width of 24 ft (7.3 m). HISS staff helped to guide the helicopter down, and once they were satisfied, our stevedores then moved in to remove the extra roll trailers.”
As the cargo is kept under deck on ro-ro vessels, WW Ocean said the only additional protection required was a simple tarpaulin to protect the windshield.
The helicopter was subsequently transported to Southampton on WW Ocean’s Americas to Europe liner service.
