WW Ocean Calls at Kanazawa for Komatsu

To mark its latest port call at the Japanese port of Kanazawa for manufacturer Komatsu, WW Ocean hosted a welcome ceremony for dignitaries from the company and the local press onboard its RoRo vessel Tugela.

The ceremony in December came as WW Ocean marked its 10th port call at Kanazawa since 2016 for the Japanese OEM. In this period, WW Ocean has loaded approximately 1,000 units of Komatsu equipment.

On its latest visit to Kanazawa, the export port for construction machinery manufactured at Komatsu’s nearby Awazu factory, WW Ocean loaded around 450 pieces of equipment, including 20 Komatsu excavators, in a day and a half – an undertaking that would typically take a week using a conventional LoLo vessel.

The machinery equipment, destined for the US, was positioned onboard the 229-metre-long, 72,000 tonne RoRo vessel using 38 roll trailers and 24 bolsters.

“This was a momentous shipment for us and Komatsu,” explains Motonori Sakai, vice president/sales Japan, WW Ocean. “It provided an excellent opportunity for our customer to witness the outstanding capabilities of our RoRo vessels first-hand.”
