Windcat places order for future-proof CSOVs with Damen

Damen Shipyards designed the “Elevation Series” CSOVs in collaboration with Windcat and CMB.TECH. In comparison to existing boats, the outcome is a revolutionary new design with improved capacities and flexibility. The vessels are 87 meters long and 20 meters broad, with a capacity of 120 people and will be powered by hydrogen. The series will be available beginning in 2025.

The CSOVs will be manufactured at Vietnam’s Ha Long Shipyard and delivered to Windcat Offshore, a new business unit within Windcat focused on offshore energy commissioning and services. Two vessels have been ordered initially, with options for further vessels.

Windcat and CMB.TECH will offer the Elevation Series with the same dual fuel hydrogen technology found on board the Hydrocat, the world’s first hydrogen powered CTV, in order to dramatically reduce the vessels’ CO2 footprint (Crew Transfer Vessel). This technique will also play an important role in the formulation of laws and regulations governing the use of hydrogen as a fuel in medium-sized vessels.

The Elevation Series will include the most recent gangway, crane, thrusters, hybrid battery technology, and offshore charging capability, among other industry-leading features that will be disclosed in the coming weeks.
