Wagenborg Nedlift Install Bridge Over Emscher River in Karnap, Essen, Germany
A new bridge was recently installed over the Emscher river to the Emscherinsel in the Karnap district of Essen. This was not just any bridge it ws a combi-bridge with a bicycle track, a foot path and a pipeline support. Wagenborg Nedlift’s bridge specialists were there for the installation lifts.
Nedlift mobile cranes were set up on both sides of the water, a 300t mobile crane was prepared on the South side and a 500t mobile crane on the North side where there was limited space and high voltage cables suspended from pylons providing a challenging situation.
The grid operator responsible for the high voltage transmission cables was involved with the planning, along with the other parties. These were not the easiest conditions in which to assemble the 500t crane with an additional 180t counterweight and a 48m jib and then safely carry out the lifting work.
SPMTs were used on both sides of the water to transport the bridge sections to the site for installing by each crane and then the mid-section of the bridge installed by the 500t crane assisted by the 300t crane.
Thanks to the careful preparation of the bridge team and the excellent cooperation and communication with all those involved, the implementation went smoothly and to the satisfaction of the client!
