Viking Link Interconnector Cable Completed – Videos

Language, culture and now Viking Link…Ever since the Viking Age, Denmark and England have been closely linked. The two countries have traded, travelled, and shared language and culture across the North Sea.

The Viking Link interconnector cable laying is now complete – making it the world’s longest land and sea interconnector.

Late last week, about 172 km off the Danish coast in German and Dutch waters, the final section of the 765 km (475 mile) Viking Link interconnector was completed late last week by Prysmian Group’s ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’ cable-laying vessel.

It forms a 1400 MW high voltage direct current (DC) electricity link between National Grid Ventures and Energinet, the British and Danish transmission systems, connecting the Bicker Fen substation in Lincolnshire to the Revsing substation in southern Jutland, Denmark.

Soon Viking Link will be able to share enough clean energy to power up to 1.4 million homes in either country.
