VIDEO: Goliath gantry crane rises

Newport News Shipbuilding’s skyline changed this past weekend as crews lifted into place the girders of the shipyard’s new 315-metric-ton Goliath gantry crane.

At 241 feet, the new crane is taller than the 1,050-metric ton crane in the North Yard, known as “Big Blue,” and is expected to be operational in 2019. In the video you can see a time-lapse of the lift.
