Vanguard Remove, Replace and Install Bottling Machine at Coca Cola Plant in South Africa

With the onset of summer in South Africa, the bottling and beverage industry is rushing to gear up for the annual surge in demand and temperatures rise.

At the Coco Cola Plant in Wadeville Johannesburg, Vanguard’s recent challenge was to remove an existing filler, replace and install a new one, and related plant at line 3 without disrupting or stopping any of the other working lines. This would involve lifting the new 16-ton filler up and over a number of working conveyors and operational machinery.

If the space constraints, which ruled out conventional cranes and equipment were not enough of a challenge, for hygiene reasons diesel powered lifting machines are not allowed into beverage plants like Coca Cola.

As Morne Viljoen, our project manager on the job points out, “this is where our awesome fleet of electric powered plant and equipment really comes into its own”.

From Vanguard’s comprehensive fleet of specialized plant and equipment, Morne chose for his job two in-plant electric cranes (16-ton and 10-ton) and two electric forklifts (5-ton and 3-ton).

Vanguard lift “I really enjoyed this job”, says Morne, “even the client was amazed at how efficient we were. Being able to deploy the right tools for the job no matter what the challenge is such a pleasure.”
