After the news earlier last Friday that Jan de Nul had acquired the MPI Discovery, taking over the crew and planned activities, Van Oord announced later on the same day that they were acquiring the MPI Resolution and MPI Adventure with their respective crews.
The acquisition places Van Oord in a strong position for future UK offshore wind farm projects in the North Sea as, like Jan de Nul, they have also taken over the the future contracts lined up for the vessels.
CEO, Pieter van Oord, “The acquisition is fully in line with our ambitions and investment programme for the coming years.”
MPI is owned by the Dutch Shipping company Vroon Group, that has recently completed a financing package with banks which has included selling vessels operated by other companies in the group.
In the statement placed by Van Oord the take over is “subject to approval of competition authorities and due diligence and expected to be closed by the end of September 2018.”
Van Oord operates the wind farm installation vessel Aeolus which has recently undergone a comprehensive upgrade including a new 1,600 t crane built and installed by Huisman in Schiedam.
