Van Oord Completes Their Millport Coastal Flood Protection Project
A significant milestone has been reached for the Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme. In less than 5 months Van Oord has successfully positioned more than 140,000t of rock to create breakwaters and revetments to critically reduce coastal floodings due to storms.
North Ayrshire Council contracted Van Oord and its subsidiary Mackley for the Millport project, located on the stunning Scottish Island of Great Cumbrae.
With the completion of the breakwaters, the focus remains on finishing the onshore works.
The breakwaters play a crucial role in mitigating the intensity of waves and the flood walls serve as protective barriers shielding properties and land from waves and tides. Construction works on the £48 million flood protection scheme started last spring.
