Van Oord completes Baltic Eagle monopile installation job

Van Oord has completed the installation of the 50 monopile foundations for Iberdrola’s Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. Van Oord used its 8,000-tonne heavy lift installation vessel Svanen.

Van Oord won the contract for the transport and installation of the foundations as well as the supply, transport and installation of the interconnection cables for the 476 MW offshore wind project, located 30 kilometres to the northeast of Rügen island off the coast of Pomerania.

The monopiles measure a diameter of 8.75 to 9 metres and a length of between 75 and 90 metres. The foundations will support the 9.53-MW MHI Vestas Offshore Wind wind turbines.

The construction work continues on schedule and the next step is the installation of the transition pieces (TPs), Iberdrola said. The TPs are manufactured in Avilés, Spain, by Windar Renovables and currently stored in the port of Mukran.
