Van der Vlist’s Moerdijk Terminal – Progress on the Last Mile
Despite the holiday period, development progress did not come to a complete stop at the Van der Vlist new Moerdijk terminal. They have today reported on the progress made during recent months, and what steps they have to take towards completion at the end of this year.
During the last months, neither machines nor persons were standing still. For a long time, the most visible development was the construction of the quay walls, the paving, and the construction of the halls. Over the past few months, they have continued with this hard work, as well as the construction of the office and porterhouse.
Everyone’s hard work has resulted in:
- partial completion of the halls.
- completion of the quay walls on both the Roode Vaart and Hollands Diep sides.
- the infrastructure is 75% complete.
- the office has been laid externally and the finishing work has begun.
- The porterhouse is finished.
Right now, electrical work is being carried out and the installation of air conditioning and climate control is almost completed. Furthermore, their IT department is ensuring a smooth transition with regard to systems.
The upcoming weeks are all about ‘big furnishing’. The halls will be equipped with the overhead cranes on the inside and solar panels on the roof. All features needed on the quay, such as lights, security and fenders will be installed. Furthermore, the big gantry crane, with a span of 50m and a lifting capacity of 80t, is scheduled to be placed.
To complete the vision of a safely accessible, trimodal terminal, the rail track is scheduled to be laid further into the terminal, fencing will be placed, and dredging will be carried out.
The outside construction is scheduled for completion by the end of November, after which comes the finishing touches outside and interior design of the office.
Once the terminal is operational, it will be the interchange point in their blue road philosophy, referring to transport over the water of the Rhine or Danube. Van der Vlist believes in a multimodal approach, with the vision of using inland waterway and railway as the main gates to the hinterland and using road transport more and more for ‘the last mile’. With regard to activities, the emphasis is on storage and transshipment.
Everything is aimed at providing our customers with optimal, sustainable solutions. Not just transporting from A to B, but providing their management function at the terminal, where products from different parts of the world come together in a central location to be processed and distributed just-in-time. The Van der Vlist Group, as a 4PL service provider, can provide customers the complete logistics service.
