Van der Vlist Prepares for Out of Gauge Transport by Rail

Van der Vlist is driven by a passion for transport and technique. They look to find the perfect solution for their clients and the world around them. Therefore, the Van der Vlist team has been working on developing a bolster so they can offer out of gauge transport by rail.

After a long period of engineering and homologation, Van der Vlist is almost ready for rail. The Van der Vlist XL-bolster can carry cargo with maximum dimensions of:

  • 3m wide,
  • 3m  high,
  • 12m long
  • 28t in weight.

Together with one of their valued clients, they tested loading, lashing and securing of different types of machinery. During this time, the patent for their innovative bolster was pending.

As all procedures are nearly finalized, they are at the last stages of preparation to implement this environmentally friendly way of transporting oversized cargo. Martin van Dam, Managing Director at Van der Vlist Logistics, says : “Using regular rail connections gives us both flexibility and frequent departures. Also, the transit-time is generally quite precise while the emissions go down up to 85%.

Van der Vlist will start using this XL-bolster in regular transports in the last quarter of 2024.
