Van der Vlist Prepares Bemo Rail Locomotive for Shipping to Argentina
At the end of October, the Van der Vlist team was pleased to get this Bemo Rail locomotive on the right track for shipment to Argentina. From project management to special transport, with our knowledge and experience, our team went full steam ahead!
First of all, there was excellent preparation. By going through several route options with different configurations of the locomotive and of trailers, we arrived at an optimal solution for the customer, despite various height and weight restrictions.
The base of the locomotive and two bogies were transported from Warmenhuizen to Moerdijk. Once they arrived in Moerdijk, the bogies were unloaded and placed on temporary rails using our reach stackers.
Next, the base of the locomotive was placed on the bogies, and assembled by the people of Bemo Rail. By transporting it through our Moerdijk site, assembly in the ports could be avoided.
When assembled, the weight of the locomotive was about 100 tonnes.
The Van der Vlist team made this into a sturdy package and this was transported by truck with a vessel bridge from Moerdijk to Antwerp. The total weight of the transport to Antwerp was about 185 tonnes. From Antwerp, the client has shipped the locomotive to Argentina so that the customer can unwrap it there as an early Christmas present.
Thanks to the knowledge and experience of the Van der Vlist team with regard to project management and special transport, we were able to offer the total package, from the threshold to the port. Now that’s the Power to Care!
