Utorogu Gas Plant Transport Project Completed by Sarens Buildwell Nigeria

The team at Sarens Buildwell Nigeria has recently completed a remarkable transport operation, successfully delivering critical equipment for the Utorogu Gas Plant in Nigeria. This 450km journey from Lagos involved the complex movement of a debutaniser column measuring 40m by 3m by 4.2m and weighing 73t, along with a surge tank measuring 30m by 3m by 4.4m and weighing 80t.

The operation began with the precise loading of both pieces using two AC100 cranes. To ensure secure and stable transport, the team used a 600HP prime mover and 24 axle lines to carry these massive components across varied terrain.

Given the size and sensitivity of the cargo, extensive pre-mobilisation work was essential to guarantee safe passage. The Sarens Buildwell Nigeria team conducted detailed route surveys to identify and mitigate potential obstacles, assessing bypasses, planning road improvements, and accounting for bridge height and cable clearance. In addition, their experts collaborated closely with governmental agencies to secure escort services and route approvals, enabling safe and efficient detours and ensuring the cargo arrived without incident.
