Transformer Transport to Tilbury with Collett & Sons Ltd

Collett & Sons have delivered a 68t electrical transformer from the Kolektor Etra manufacturing facility in Ljubljana, Slovenia by road to the Dutch port of Vlaardingen, near Rotterdam, for a ferry to the UK and finally delivery to the substation in Tilbury, Essex.

The dimensions of the transformer were:

• Length 98m
• Width 4m
• Height 82m

The Collett Team, appointed by  Kolektor, fulfilled all transport and logistic solutions from Ljubljana to the final installation in Tilbury.

Included with the transformer, multiple trailer loads of ancillary equipment required for the project were also transported.

On arrival in the UK, each of the cargoes, the 68t transformer and various ancillary units, were transported to Collett’s dedicated Goole Heavy Lift Terminal for storage and handling ahead of onward shipment to their destination.

Once delivered to Tilbury in line with the required construction schedule, Collett’s Heavy Lift Team utilised their specialist hydraulic jacking and skidding equipment for the precise manoeuvring of the 68t transformer into its required position.

With installation of the main unit completed, Collett then utilised a 55t mobile crane, supplied under a CPA Contract Lift basis, to offload and install the remaining ancillary items.

Over a 6-week period, Collett’s European Department, Project’s, Engineering and Heavy Lift Teams worked together to deliver the project, ensuring each stage from Ljubljana, Slovenia to final delivery in Tilbury in the UK. With expert management each of the required cargoes were successfully installed in line with the client’s requirements.
