Time-saving installation of a steam generator with bespoke gantry, Brazil

Overview

ALE has performed the installation of a steam generator, weighing 355t, at a power plant in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Services Required

ALE designed two bespoke gantries specifically for this site’s conditions; one fixed and one mobile, utilising them with strand jacks and a slewing spreader.

The generator was lifted 13m to the turbine deck level.

ALE’s unique design of the gantries enabled the generator to be rotated 90 degrees.

It was then skidded 10m within the turbine house.

Finally, ALE lowered the generator, aligning it to its final position on the bearings within an accuracy of 1mm.

The custom design of the gantries saved the client time by enabling them to complete construction of the building’s machine hall prior to the generator’s installation, without the need to subsequently remove any of the steel structure.
