The Video of Osprey’s Delivery of Hinkley Point C’s First Reactor
In February this year, Osprey’s nuclear team coordinated the transportation of EDF’s new Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) in to Hinkley Point C (HPC). The safe delivery of this component marks yet another important milestone, not only for the site itself, but also for Britain’s nuclear roadmap.
The 13m long reactor vessel, weighing 500t, arrived at the port of Avonmouth by sea from France and was loaded onto Osprey’s Flat-top barge Isobel Rose by their SPMTs for the last part of transport over water.
The barge was powered by Seacontractors’ tugs Sea Bronco and MTS Valour from Avonmouth to Combwich Wharf on the River Parrett.
The final leg of the journey was by road for 4.6 miles (7.4km) on Osprey’s SPMTs from the wharf up to the main construction area, where it would be stored safely and securely until it’s installed in the Reactor Building itself.
Osprey have released a video of this epic journey which is posted below.
