The Boskalis ‘Royal Hoppers’ Creating Innovative Infrastructure in The Maldives

The Maldives is facing serious capacity challenges. The capital city of Malé is overcrowded, both in terms of population and port infrastructure. Creating new land near Malé will enable the international commercial port currently located on Malé to be relocated and will enable the creation of greatly needed housing capacity.

Oranje

Last summer, Boskalis’ trailing suction hopper dredger Oranje commenced reclamation activities at Thilafushi, which were followed by reclamation activities at Giraavaru and finally the Oranje kicked off the dredging activities for the second phase of the Gulhifalhu project.

Prins der Nederlanden

The Oranje was succeeded by our trailing suction hopper dredger Prins der Nederlanden which recently received assistance from our mega trailing suction hopper dredger Queen of the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, our trailing suction hopper dredger Willem van Oranje is executing several other dredging activities in the vicinity.

All four of our ‘Royal hoppers’ worked in a matter of months supporting the economic and social development of the archipelago through the creation of innovative infrastructure. Another unique landmark for Boskalis in our long history with dredging and reclamation projects around the world.
