Terra Marique Makes River Dee Delivery of Four 125t Boilers and Four Economisers from the Port of Mostyn – Video
The Mostyn Port Authority are delighted to announce the successful completion of their up-river move project with Robert Wynn & Sons Ltd.’s heavy lift vessel ‘Terra Marique’.
Following the end of A380 wing production and steel shipping the traffic on the River Dee had slowed down, so 8 months of planning was triggered when a client in the Deeside Industrial Area needed to have four 125t boilers and 4 economisers delivered.
Robert Wynn and Sons’ Terra Marique, in coordination with Allelys, was to make 2 trips up the river after the Port of Mostyn’s hydrographic surveying of the river had proven the plan’s feasibility. The port was also to provide a location for offloading, preparation and re-rigging and a storage area for parts of the loads until required for the up-river journey.
The selection of the dates for the 2 journeys was dependant on the tides as the 9m tidal range on the river, one of the largest in the UK.
Each journey would take 3 days:
- Day 1 – Pilotage of the Terrra Marique from Port of Mostyn to Shotton
- Day 2 – turning the Terra Marique to berth stern to, allowing the discharge of the cargo
- Day 3 – Pilotage of the Terrra Marique from Shotton to Port of Mostyn
This was a complex project which would not have been possible without the dedication and co-operation of all the stakeholders involved, and thanks go to everyone who contributed to making this project a reality Robert Wynn & Sons Ltd. / Allelys / Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales / Stoat Media.
The Port of Mostyn is proud to have provided support with pilotage services, cargo discharge and storage, as well as hydrographic surveying and consultation.
Having successfully demonstrated this capability the port authority is excited to explore future opportunities for utilising inland waterway transportation to support the Deeside Industrial Area.
