TenneT’s Spare HKZ cable Towed to Eemshaven by Royal Wagenborg’s ASD Tug Waterstraat

After delivering approximately 4,000t of cable to Van Oord’s cable lay vessel Nexus in Rotterdam the barge CC Atlantique with the remaining cable has been towed by Royal Wagenborg’s ASD tug Waterstraat to Eemshaven to be delivered to TenneT for storage as a spare cable.

The 122m long barge CC Atlantique has been chartered by Van Oord to deliver cable from Hellenic Cables in Greece.

Blue Offshore mobilized the world’s first certified double basket carrousel barge, with each carrousel carrying approximately 4,000 tonnes of cable for the voyage from Greece to Rotterdam The cable is for Van Oord to supply a full cable transport spread for both the Hollandse Kust (Zuid) 2020 Alpha and 2021 Beta cable transport campaigns.

The Hollandse Kust (Zuid) Alpha grid connection must be ready in 2021. Beta is scheduled for completion in 2022. The HKZ wind parks combined will supply 1,500 MW of renewable energy, sufficient to supply up to 3 million households with power.
