TenneT’s 336t Transformer Delivered by Mammoet and Van der Wees Watertransporten B.V. to Dodewaard
The transport of transformer weighing 336,000kg, the same weight as a Boeing 747, makes an impressive sight as it is moved over water and road.
Last week on Monday, the transport of this transformer destined for TenneT’s high-voltage substation in Dodewaard began in Schiedam when Mammoet’s SPMTs delivered it on to the pontoon Lastdrager 28 from the Water Transport Division fleet of Van der Wees Transport.
From there it went by river to Ochten on the Waal river in the Betuwe.
Early on Tuesday morning, the transformer was moved ashore where it had to make a journey of 12 km through Ochten and across the A15. Both the A15 highway and the railway were closed for a few hours to allow the transport to pass.
After a delay due to fog the transformer arrived safely at the station in Dodewaard.
This 500 MVA three-phase powerhouse with 100 MVA coil replaces three old single-phase transformers from 1968. In this way, TenneT can ensure a stable power supply for around 135,000 households in the River Region.
TenneT would like to thank all cooperation partners Volker Energy Solutions, Royal SMIT Transformers B.V., Mammoet, Gemeente Neder-Betuwe, Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail, Vermeulen Groep, SteelWood, Van der Wees Watertransporten B.V., Fievet-Lambregts transport b.v. and NL Exceptioneel for their valuable contribution to this special transport.
