Synergy is stella for Jumbo
April 18 – Jumbo has decided to call its new DP2 heavy lift crane vessel (HLVC) Stella Synergy following an internal competition at the Dutch shipping and offshore group.

Due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2020, the vessel – which HLPFI first reported here has been designed in cooperation with Ulstein Design and Solutions, and will be powered by dual fuel engines with the ability to run on liquefied natural gas.
Its crane will have a 2,500-tonne lifting capacity, a triple hoist to allow for complex upending operations and active heave compensation (AHC).
A second subsea crane will have capacity of 400 tonnes as well as AHC.
The hull will be outfitted with a state-of-the-art X-BOW enabling a significantly more consistent transit speed and offshore workability in severe weather conditions. With a length of 185 m and a width of 36 m the HLCV will be the world’s largest X-BOW vessel.
Michael Kahn, managing director of Jumbo, said: “Stella Synergy is a beautiful name that captures the many elements of the Jumbo spirit. It symbolises Jumbo 50 years ago when we started as pioneers in the heavy lift industry with our first ‘Stella’ vessel. It also symbolises the complementary relationship between today’s shipping and offshore divisions, as well as the cooperation of the two families, namely Borchard and Kahn.”
The winning name was proposed Jiovanni Pardillo who has worked with Jumbo as an AB crewmember since 2006. He will receive a cash prize of EUR2,500 (USD3,090), corresponding to the 2,500-tonne lifting capacity of the main crane on the new vessel. SOURCE: HLPFI
