SS-HLV Hua Hai Long Completes first Voyage after Modifications
The 30,000-ton self-propelled semi-submersible, SS-HLV Hua Hai Long, safely unloaded a drilling platform in Dubai recently, completing the first ocean-going transport voyage after the dry dock and modifications.
The jack-up drilling platform was 81.7 meters long, 61 meters wide and 98.8 meters high, with a total weight of 5958 tons. The journey lasted 27 days and the total voyage was 5832 nautical miles.
To meet new market requirements, the Guangzhou Salvage Bureau invested in changing the propulsion system, the original shaft propeller, for a full-rotation pod propeller, and removing the stern thruster and steering gear. The fuel supply unit was also modified.
Fuel consumption and speed, monitored during the voyage to Dubai, proved to be significantly improved after the modifications, exceeding expectations.
The Hua Hai Long’s target markets are the transport of vessels requiring emergency support and salvage of large and damaged ships and offshore drilling oil platforms.
The recent modifications will further enhance the capabilities and competitiveness of the vessel in the ocean towing and heavy lift market.
