Smulders sends out last Transition Pieces for Iles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind farm in France

On 3 August, the last badge of Transition Pieces (TPs) for the Iles d’Yeu et Noirmoutier Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Vendée, France, left Smulders’ yard in Hoboken, Belgium, the company announced today.

The TPs were transported on the flat top barge CS1 by Verbeke Shipping to Vlissingen where they are stored temporarily until they are shipped towards the construction site of the 496 MW offshore wind farm which is owned by Eoliennes en Mer Iles d’Yeu et Noirmoutier (EMYN), a consortium made up of Ocean Winds (a joint venture between ENGIE and EDP Renováveis), Sumitomo Corporation, La Banque des Territoires and Vendée Energie.

Smulders, together with Eiffage Métal, were awarded the contract for the manufacture of 62 transition pieces for this wind farm at the end of 2022. Each transition piece measures 29.5 metres in hight and have a diameter of 6 metres. Their unit weight is just over 360 tonnes including the secondary steel structures.

The secondary steel was manufactured at the Smulders facilities in Poland. The TPs were assembled at the Hoboken site in Belgium. The foundations will support the Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines.
