Karl Scholl GmbH based in Heidelberg took delivery of a new LTM 1070-4.2 in mid-March. The 50 metre telescopic boom was a major criterion in deciding in favour of the 70-tonne crane from Liebherr.

Managing Director Yvonne Scholl and her partner Andreas Merkel, who is responsible for external technical services, travelled to the manufacturing plant in Ehingen to take delivery of the new crane.

Yvonne Scholl is in the second year of her management of the family-run company and says: “The LTM 1070-4.2 is the first crane whose purchase I have decided as Managing Director. It will replace an old 60-tonne crane and will deliver a higher hoist height and greater performance. We have a great deal of work for this class of crane.”

Andreas Merkel continues: “The LTM 1070-4.2 with a gross weight of 48 tonnes delivers benefits for road licensing and is therefore extremely flexible in use. The new ballast distribution now also makes it possible to reduce the gross weight to below 40 tonnes. That is very helpful for us since more and more bridges are now restricted to a maximum weight of 40 tonnes.”

Typical work for the new crane will include assembling prefabricated concrete and hoisting air conditioning systems onto high buildings, as well as heavy load jobs with a short telescopic boom involving the assembly of transformer stations. Andreas Merkel says: “Over the last few years we have seen an interesting new area of work. We have been hoisting pools over roofs into gardens in ever increasing numbers. The 50 metre telescopic boom of this new crane is perfect for this.”

Karl Scholl GmbH is a classic crane rental company and runs 15 mobile cranes with lifting capacities from 30 to 300 tonnes with a 25-strong workforce. The family-run company is now managed by the third generation.
