Sarens Completes 41 Heavy Lifts in Challenging Conditions
Sarens crew and equipment were on-site for heavy lifting work in Adana, Turkey, last year. The operation, which was performed on behalf of client Gemont Endüstri Tesisleri İmalat ve Montaj A.S. and project owner SASAPolyester San. Tic. A.S., called for the following equipment:
- CC8800-1 with boom booster
- LR1750
- CC2400-1
- Small mobile cranes
- Special spreaders
Because the project site was not suitable for cranes larger than the CC8800, Sarens devised an engineering solution using the CC8800-1 with a boom booster.
In total, Sarens lifted 41 heavy units, including
- a 700t, 22m oxidation reactor,
- a 700t, 52m rectification column,
- and five 350t, 52m silos.
To install each silo, the CC8800-1 crawled about 100m, then lifted in tandem with the LR1750.
The equipment arrived from Germany within 8 days, although customs clearance took another 26 days. Then, it was transported to the job site in three days and assembled within 18 days. The main crane was transported on 100 trailers between the port and job site, and 12 the jib sections were brought in by 12 trailers from Croatia.
Although a devastating earthquake, high winds, and strong rains delayed work, the crew was able to successfully complete the lifts required. After the last lift, the client’s project manager came and thanked the jobsite team directly. They included two project managers, two site supervisors, eight to ten crane operators, and one engineer.
Sarens would also like to congratulate them on a job well done!
