Reclaimer Boom Transport on SCHEUERLE Axle Lines in Australia

The Australian specialist for heavy- and large-capacity transports WA Specialised Transport (WAST) has transported the boom of a bucket wheel reclaimer with a length of 70 meters and a weight of 200 tons on SCHEUERLE axle lines. It is said to be the largest boom that ThyssenKrupp has produced to date. To carry the extraordinary weight, WAST put together two transport platforms, on which the boom was supported by special bolsters at its front and rear ends. For this purpose, WAST combined ten WideCombi axle lines and twelve InterCombi axle lines. The ready-to-drive train combination was 78.7 meters long, 9.8 meters wide and 7.5 meters high and weighed almost 300 tons.

“I chose SCHEUERLE axle lines because of their low weight. In addition, the spreader system is easy to operate on the SCHEUERLE axle lines. According to Australian legislation, the wide track allows us to use the maximum payload of the vehicles,” explains WAST boss John Liddelow. The Australian heavy goods logistics company based in Kenwick has a total of 88 axle lines of different series from brands of the TII Group – WAST has already ordered another.

With the help of the 25 axle lines from Pfedelbach, WAST not only met the local regulations for road use, but also circumvented infrastructure obstacles such as traffic lights and street lighting as well as high-voltage lines with the huge load. The train took 3.5 hours to cover the twelve-kilometre route along the west coast from the paint shop in Kwinana to Henderson. From there, the boom was shipped to the BHP mining company 1,600 kilometres to the north, where the completed bucket wheel excavator will be used in an ore processing plant.
