Rails for Bangalore Metro Project Delivered by Total Movements
With less than 7 days’ notice Total Movements was entrusted with the responsibility of transporting 2999t of HH Rails from the discharge port to the project site including unloading and stacking at the BMRCL Depot (Bangalore Metro rail Corporation Limited). The entire consignment was required to be transported from the port on an urgent basis, hence the Total Movements operations team would have to make all the arrangements very quickly.
The specialized vehicles had to travel about 350km each trip from the port to the site in central India. Their team remained steadfast, continuously tracking the delivery status, with each vehicle unloading on schedule. The entire consignment was safely delivered to the site in just 20 days.
The main challenge was that the project site was in one of the busiest parts of the city with limitations on the number of vehicles that could arrive and remain at the site at the same time. The Total Movements technical and operations team collaborated closely with the project owner to park the vehicles at a safe place away from the site, and then bring each vehicle inside the site for unloading quickly. They also developed a practical and customized solution for safely stacking the rail sections. The rails had to be precisely stacked which was aided by their experience of handling cargo such as this, ultimately winning the customer’s appreciation.
