Out With the Old and In With the New – Sarens Technical Solutions & Engineering Team Replace Pipe Crossing at Tata Steel

The Sarens Technical Solutions & Engineering team is proud to have helped client AMC NV exchange a pipe crossing for Tata Steel’s IJmuiden works in the Netherlands. At this site, approximately 7.5 million tonnes of hot and cold rolled coil is produced each year.

Here, Sarens was entrusted with a project that would require a special in-house designed and engineered solution, namely a lifting tool/frame capable of moving a pipe crossing out of and into the pipe rack. To successfully implement this objective, Sarens deployed two AC500s and one LTM1650 main boom crane. The equipment was delivered via trailer from Sarens NL and assembled within a day at the Tata site.

Next, over four days in June of 2023, Sarens used the three cranes to move the pipe crossing out of and into the pipe rack, with very little space to manoeuvre between them. Because of the limited space, Sarens’ custom engineered lifting frame was used as a balance.

By the project’s finish, Sarens had helped exchange 90t of old and 50t of new pipe crossing. Sarens thanks everyone involved in making this job a resounding success!
