Ørsted Names Borssele 1 and 2 Contractors

Ørsted selects GeoSea for Borssele 1 & 2 foundation and turbine transport and installation.

Ørsted has signed contracts with Van Oord and GeoSea for the installation of wind farm Borssele 1 + 2. GeoSea installs the foundations and turbines. Van Oord is responsible for the installation of the cables. Borssele 1 + 2 has a capacity of 752 MW and is 23 kilometers from the coast of Zeeland (Westkappele). The construction of the wind farm is planned for 2020.

GeoSea (part of DEME) is contracted for the transport and installation of the 94 foundations and turbines of Borssele 1 + 2. GeoSea is responsible for the complete installation of the monopile foundations and for the delivery and installation of erosion protection. The water depths vary from 14 to 36 meters.

A2SEA (the turbine installation experts of GeoSea) supplies installation vessels for the transport and installation of the 94 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines with a new large rotor of 167 meters.

Van Oord has been commissioned to transport, install and bury 94 inter-array cables with a total length of 167 kilometers. Van Oord will use its special cable-laying machine Nexus and trencher Dig-It to install and bury the cables to a depth of 2 meters.
