Norwind orders Vard-design Energy Construction Vessel for the renewable energy market

Norwind Offshore, in collaboration with Wind Energy Construction AS, has signed a new contract with Vard for the design and construction of an Energy Construction Vessel (ECV). The vessel will be of VARD 3 11 design and is said to have been developed as a new vessel category for the renewable energy market.

The VARD 3 11 design is tailor-made for the offshore wind and subsea market, including inspection, maintenance and repair of pipes, and installation of infrastructure above and below sea level. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered from VARD Vung Tau in Q2 2027.

“We are pleased to have – together with VARD, developed a new vessel category which will enable the development of renewable energy to an even greater extent. The concept builds on vessels within the construction market which we have previously built with VARD, and we feel confident that this will play an important role in the development of, among other things, offshore wind in the coming years”
— Svein Leon Aure, CEO Norwind Offshore

The vessel will have a length of 111,5 meters and beam of 22,4 meters. It has a deck area of 950 m2, a helideck and accommodation for 120 POB. The ECV is the first construction vessel with a motion-compensated gangway (walk-to-work) and integrated 3D compensated crane permanently installed. This, in addition to a heave-compensated offshore crane of 150 tons will position the vessel especially towards the growing renewables market. Other features include a battery hybrid and methanol ready propulsion, a closed hangar for 2 x WROVs, a work moonpol and prepared for MHS tower. Source: Norwind Images: Vard
