Newbuilds on horizon for OHT?

21 June, 2018

According to reports in Splash 24/7, Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT) has signed a contract with China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) for a newbuild semi-submersible heavy lift vessel.

Splash 24/7 reports that the 48,000 dwt vessel will be built at CMHI’s Jiangsu shipyard; and the contract includes an option for three more ships of the same type.

The article suggests that the newbuild capacity would optimise OHT’s ageing semi-submersible fleet, which is comprised of five ships with an average age of 31 years.

When contacted by HLPFI, OHT declined to comment on the report.
