MJ van Riel BV Replaces Bridge Section in Belgium
While everyone else was sleeping during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday last week, the team from MJ van Riel BV were busy transporting a bridge section in Belgium from Geel to Verviers. The bridge measured 16m long, 5.2m wide and 2m high and had a weight of 33t
In Verviers the team then put the bridge section in place with their 500t Demag AC-500-2 telescopic crane.

The challenge of this assignment was the tight installation location and the slope in the road surface. This required a sand/rubble bed with 12 dragline bulkheads on top, in order to be able to distribute the weight more evenly.

The bridge needed to be replaced because of the floods in July 2021, which caused excessive damage to the existing bridge.
