Marr Contracting Awarded Boggo Road Station Heavy Lifts on Brisbane’s Cross River Rail project

Marr Contracting Pty Ltd (The Men From Marr’s) has been awarded the contract to deliver the heavy lifting craneage solution on construction of the new Boggo Station as part of Brisbane’s Cross River Rail project.
Joint venture partners – CPB Contractors, BAM, Ghella and UGL Design and Construction (CBGU D&C JV) – awarded the contract to Marr’s after the consortium won the State of Queensland’s competitive tender to deliver the design and construction package for the Cross River Rail project.
After previously working with two of joint venture partners (CPB Contractors and Ghella) on construction of the Sydney Metro Barangaroo and Martin Place stations, CBGU D&C JV invited Marr to work with them at bid stage to develop a craneage solution that would support the consortium’s desired construction methodology for the project.
The craneage solution – using two of Marr’s M2480D heavy lift luffing (HLL) tower cranes – will allow the joint venture partners to adopt a construction methodology similar to that used on the successful Sydney Metro projects to help drive productivity, improve safety, and reduce time and project cost.
“We always believed that the methodology we developed for Sydney Metro would be a game changer for the construction of other railways stations in Australia and around the world. It’s great to be working with CBGU D&C JV to bring this technology and different way of thinking about railway construction into Queensland,” said Marr’s Managing Director, Simon Marr.
Marr’s involvement on the project is expected to be until mid-2022. The new Boggo Station is due for completion by 2024.
