Mammoet Congratulates Dangote Industries Team On the Inauguration of the World’s Largest Single-Train Refinery at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos taking place this week.

Mammoet was contracted to assist in the construction at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical complex with heavy lifting and transport at the world’s largest single-train refinery at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

Their scope consisted of receiving, inland transport, on-site lifting and installation of hundreds of refinery components.

Mammoet demobilized the equipment it had deployed there over the past years on the conclusion another successful project completed safely and delivered on time.

To optimize the construction process and schedule and ensure the highest levels of construction uptime, Mammoet drew on its diverse fleet of heavy lifting and transport equipment. This has included conventional trailers and trucks, SPMTs, plus mobile and crawler cranes ranging in capacity from 250t to 1,600t.

In addition, Mammoet brought two of its largest super heavy lift ring cranes with lifting capacities up to 5,000t – the PTC200-DS and PT50 – to bring maximum efficiencies to the execution of the project. Their lifting capacity, combined with a long reach and a small footprint, enabled more efficient approaches to lifting and installing heavy and oversized components, such as a 3,000t regenerator – the heaviest item ever transported over a public road in Africa and a 2,000t crude column – the largest crude column in the world. The 3000-ton regenerator measures 56 meters long, 23 meters wide and 25 meters high. It was offloaded from the ship by a roll-off method using 108 axle lines of SPMT in 3 x 36 lines configuration and then safely transported to the site. Similarly, a 1673-ton reactor, measuring 44 meters long, 16 meters wide and 17 meters high, was transported using 78 axle lines in a 3 x 26 lines configuration.

Throughout the duration of the project, Mammoet transported 239 items from the jetty to the site, with a combined weight of 84,905t and installed 154 items with a combined weight of 68,415t.

Paul van Gelder, CEO of Mammoet commented: “We are very honoured that the Dangote Group entrusted us with the entire heavy lifting and transport scope for one of the most significant projects in Nigeria and the West Africa region.”
