Maintenance and Expansion at Delamine Delfzijl Assisted by Wagenborg Nedlift

The production facility of Delamine is sited in the Chemie Park Delfzijl on the southern side of the channel leading to port of the Dutch town of Delfzijl. Wagenborg Nedlift’s lifting experts, have been working here at the Chemie Park for years, and recently they assisted Delamine with an extensive maintenance overhaul which included a substantial expansion of the production capacity at the same time.

Four mobile cranes were used for the usual maintenance work on the existing plant. At the same time, construction was busy on an extension project: the HAM project. This required the installation of a new distillation column in a site surrounded by existing plant structures. A real challenge for Wagenborg Nedlift’s lifting experts.

Planning the placing of a distillation column weighing 16.8t, 3.5m in diameter and 14.5m long in an installation requires preparation. This was the starting point for Wagenborg Nedlift project managers and engineers. They drew up a thorough execution plan in cooperation with all contractors involved. The lifting operation of the new column was worked out in a precise step-by-step plan by the engineers.

The plan involved the deployment of a 200t class mobile crane, however, due to availability reasons, the final lifting operation was carried out with a 500t mobile crane. To move the new column from horizontal to vertical position, a second crane was deployed.

After the column was brought into vertical position, it was the turn of the operator of the 500t crane to skilfully manoeuvre the distillation column into the newly built plant.

This was an example of Excellent workmanship and teamwork from all involved!
