Logistics in Finland with Ahola Special for Energiequelle Oy’s Wind Farm

In Finland the Lumivaara wind farm is progressing! Already half of the power plants for Energiequelle’s wind farm have been completed in Hyrynsalmi and are up and running.

The transport of wind turbine parts from the ports of Raahe and Kalajoki to the individual construction sites in the area was completed at the end of August. The long and wide transports were carried out safely without any problems by Ahola Special from Kokkola. In total, there were more than a hundred special transports, as the power plants with their towers must be transported to their destination in several parts due to their large size.

For example, the blades of the Lumivaara wind turbines are 80m long and weigh about 29,000 kilograms, so these were very massive special transports.

All in all, six heavy trucks and as many different types of trailers specifically designed for these special transports were involved in transporting parts alone, as well as numerous escort vehicles leading and following each transport.

The teams of drivers and assistants with the vehicles is another good indication of the employment effect of renewable energy projects!

But the employment effect is not limited to these teams, as each transport route is calculated, modelled and tested carefully beforehand by numerous experts to ensure that long journeys can be turned or under bridges and that the roads can withstand the strain caused by transport. This sometimes leads to unusual choices for the routes from the point of view of the public.

The Lumivaara wind farm is expected to be completed by the end of the year and it is expected to produce renewable energy annually for approximately 29,000 households.
