In early June 2020, KMTF safely transported 25 units of oversized cargo intended for construction of the integrated gas-chemical complex from the Romanian port of Constanta to Atyrau in Kazakhstan.
In total, six barges were involved in the transportation. Each barge spent on average 35 days to cover the distance between the 2 ports. The route for all six barges involved sailing through Russian inland waterways.
It is important to note that while going through Russian inland waterways, the most difficult section is the Ural-Caspian canal. The mouth of the Ural river is heavily silted up and a shallow river depth restricts the passage of loaded vessels to the Caspian Sea.
Under these circumstances, prior to passage KMTF conducted a special bathymetric survey of the bottom and dredging ordered by Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries made it possible to navigate safely through the canal.
