JDN Setting an Example at the Office on Thursday

Commuter traffic mobilizes a lot of people every day, which leads to long traffic jams, annoyance and an environmental and climate impact. For this reason, the employees of Jan De Nul Group will take part in the Car Free Day on Thursday 19 September, an initiative which is part of the Mobility Week.

“At Jan De Nul we do business in a socially responsible way. We are looking for sustainable solutions, not only in our projects, we also encourage our employees to do so: what is our footprint as a company, but also as an individual within that company?” CSR coordinator of Jan De Nul Group, Isabelle Herteleer, explains. “Our participation in the Car Free Day nicely fits in with this and makes us reflect on our travel behaviour. The message is: leave your car at home and discover the sustainable alternatives. Coming Thursday, our colleagues will do their best to use an alternative way to come to our sites in Flanders.”

This action is part of the larger substantiated CSR policy (Corporate social responsibility) within the group. For Jan De Nul, corporate social responsibility and sustainable entrepreneurship are based on three pillars: reducing the impact of its activities on water and air, the importance of human capital and innovation as a driving force. These three sustainable corporate themes apply to all business activities and define the way in which Jan De Nul Group contributes to the world of tomorrow.

In order to reduce its impact on climate change, Jan De Nul Group makes extra efforts in the field of CO2 emissions. The company is certified for the CO2 performance ladder, a Dutch instrument for companies to reduce CO2. “Starting from our certification, we closely follow up our CO2 emissions and we therefore set up short and long term objectives”, Isabelle Herteleer continues. “This also includes certain actions we take together with our colleagues. Earlier this year, we already introduced some initiatives in the office and at the sites, such as a profitable bicycle leasing for employees and a participation in the East Flanders Tournée Pédale in May.”
