Jan de Nul completes Gode Wind 3 offshore substation installation

Danish energy company Ørsted announced today the successful installation of the offshore substation topside at the Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm, some 30 km off the island of Norderney in the German North Sea. The offshore substation is now in place.

The offshore substation will collect and convert the energy produced by the 23 wind turbines of Gode Wind 3. The offshore wind farm will have a capacity of 253 MW is Ørsted’s fifth offshore wind farm in Germany. Together with Borkum Riffgrund 3, which is also under construction, it will be able to supply the equivalent of 1.2 million German households with green power.

The installation was performed by Jan de Nul, using their latest installation vessel Les Alizés. Jan de Nul won the contract for both the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind farms. Jan De Nul’s assignment consists of the transportation and installation of 106 foundations for wind turbines and a foundation for an offshore substation, including the associated topside.

Atlantique Offshore Energy, Chantiers de l’Atlantique business unit dedicated to offshore marine energy, was selected by the company Ørsted to take care of the whole engineering process, the procurement, the construction (EPC) and the commissioning of the offshore electrical substation (both the topside and the Modular Support Frame) for the offshore wind farm of Gode Wind 3.
