IPS Rangering AS Get 4 KAMAG Wiesels

IPS Rangering AS recently acquired four new Wiesels from KAMAG. With the swap body transporters, the logistics service provider organises the handling of swap bodies and semi-trailers for the Swedish logistics company Postnord in Norway. The key factor this investment, among other things, was the very positive experience gained using the previous generation of swap body transporters.

Based in Norway, with branches in Sweden and Denmark, IPS Rangering AS provides a wide range of logistical services; the company recently ordered four KAMAG Wiesels through the Norwegian KAMAG dealer Brubakken AS. The order for delivery of the completely overhauled Wiesel will be completed by the middle of the year. All of the swap body pallet transporters will feature the new driver´s cab which has been developed by KAMAG. With the addition of the new models, IPS Rangering has complemented its fleet of handling vehicles which already includes 17 Wiesels. The Ulm-based manufacturer of special vehicles, KAMAG, belongs to the Transporter Industry International Group (TII Group) which is owned by the Otto Rettenmaier entrepreneurial family.

With the latest generation of the Wiesel incorporating the KAMAG cab, the driver benefits in particular from the low entry height using only a single flat step, excellent ergonomics at the workplace as well as the high standard of comfort equating to that of a modern truck. Another outstanding feature in the swap body transporter segment is the excellent visibility when seated in the Wiesel cabin with very clear views in front of and behind the vehicle. This is due to the large, one-piece glass surfaces in each case whereby the front windscreen is even curved around the A-pillars. Furthermore, the Wiesel with the new driver´s cab also features an in-line four-cylinder diesel engine that is classified as low-emission according to Euromot 5.

IPS Rangering will use the four new Wiesel vehicles to move swap bodies and semi-trailers for its customer, logistics company Postnord Norway, at the Alfaset and Langhus (Norway) terminals. “We chose the Wiesel because we have had a very good experience with KAMAG logistics vehicles over the past few years. We have been using KAMAG vehicles for handling Postnord Norway swap bodies for four years now. In addition, we were impressed by the attractive cost-benefit ratio and low operating costs (TCO, Total Costs of Ownership) as well as the excellent cooperation with the regional KAMAG dealer Brubakken AS”, said Per Karlsen, CEO of IPS Nordic AS.

Quality and reliability are crucial for yard logistic providers. “It is of central importance for our customers that we reliably provide our logistical services along with high quality – namely 24 hours a day. This is what we are judged by”, reported Karlsen. “If we are not able to do this simply because our logistics vehicles do not have the corresponding quality, then all of the customers vehicles would be going nowhere very quickly thus resulting in high costs.”

Another important success factor is the speed at which the containers are handled. The new Wiesel has also set new records here. The new engine of the swap body transporter not only contributes to lower CO2 and exhaust emissions but also to a higher level of cost-effectiveness when handling containers. With the optimised lifting frame system of the new Wiesel, the proprietary hydraulic circuit drives four single-stage cylinders with faster automatic-hydraulic parallel lifting operations compared to the previous generation with a speed of five centimetres per second.

The Wiesel is a true success story at KAMAG. The manufacturer of special vehicles has now sold more than 2,000 units of the swap body transporter. Up to now, the demand for the vehicle has come mainly from the so-called DACH region, i.e. Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Here, the use of swap bodies and containers is widespread in intermodal transport, i.e. cross-modal operations. In the meantime, demand has also significantly increased outside of this region. This is also confirmed by IPS Rangering CEO Karlsen: “In Scandinavia, we are also seeing a steadily growing proportion of intermodal transports with swap bodies and semi-trailers”. The main reason for this is the continuing boom in the internet trading sector. The fact that this can be carried out as climate-compatible as possible is something that the new Wiesel generation is in a position to also make a valuable contribution.
