Geismar 3 Methanol Plant Levee Crossing and Heavy Haul Awarded to Mammoet
Mammoet is pleased to announce it has been awarded the levee crossing and heavy haul scope for the upcoming construction of Methanex’s Geismar 3 Methanol Plant in Louisiana.
This plant will be adjacent to the existing Geismar 1 and Geismar 2 facilities and is expected to generate 1.8 million tons of methanol per year. The plant is scheduled to be ready for operation in the second half of 2022.
Under the agreement, Mammoet’s scope includes receiving all oversize and overweight breakbulk cargo that will need barge transportation to reach the site, the barging, unloading and final inland transport just under a half mile to the staging area. Mammoet’s team previously assisted in the relocation of both Geismar 1 and Geismar 2 plants from Punta Arenas, Chile to Louisiana. For each of these, Mammoet delivered an integrated package of services, lifting and moving almost 400 heavy components and modules and setting them up for reassembly.
Robert Roest, Commercial Manager Special Projects at Mammoet, states, “This will be phase three of the continuing relationship between Methanex and Mammoet for the Geismar facility. Phase 1 and Phase 2 had their challenges, but by taking an active interest in our client’s success, great outcomes have been realized. Of course, it’s helpful to have a partner on the other side of the table that wants to work with you every step of the way and Methanex has been that partner to us. We are humbled by this third vote of confidence by Methanex.”
