There was a buzz of excitement at the second annual Galveston RoRo Rodeo last week, where 45 trainees and two global OEMs came together for a day of hands-on learning and collaboration.

With Caterpillar and Case New Holland (CNH) sharing advice on how best to load and handle their equipment, attendees learned how to improve productivity and safety while reducing the risk of cargo damage.

Eleven on-site learning stations – including one lashing station – gave trainees the opportunity to handle and load a range of equipment, from bulldozers and excavators to tractors. At the lashing station, attendees learnt how to tie different types of cargo to both roll trailers and bolsters.

WW Ocean Galveston port manager Hank Bivins described the event as a resounding success. “The equipment market in the Gulf Coast area is huge, so sufficient training on these high and heavy machines is particularly relevant for local stevedores.”
