Fremantle Highway Update

The Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management) has issued the following statement yesterday (Monday 31 July) afternoon at 16.25.

The Fremantle Highway has arrived at its temporary location, 16 km above Schiermonnikoog and Ameland. The towing of the ship went without any problems. Due to the following current during the second part of the tow, it was possible to sail faster than previously calculated. Smoke development from the freighter also remained minimal during the entire tow route.

Two tugboats started the 66 km journey yesterday (Sunday 30 July) afternoon and arrived at the temporary location around 11.30 on Monday 31 July..

The plan is to anchor the Fremantle Highway. As soon as possible, a team from the recovery combination will go on board to carry out an inspection. The Fremantle Highway remains attached to the tugs. The oil recovery vessel Arca will also remain nearby.

The final port is not yet known. This also depends on the situation on board the cargo ship, the expected weather conditions and an available port with the right facilities.

Dutch Coastguard  vessels Arca and Guardian remain on station along with the Dutch tugs Barney and Multratug 20 and the German tug Fairplay 30, with a line attached to the Fremantle Highway. Salvage vessel Multrsalvor 4 has been alongside the stricken vessel and remains in close attendance.
