Exceptional Transformer Transport from Paris to Vinon-sur-Verdon in the Département of Var
Exceptional convoy for a transformer.
Leaving the National Reserve in Ville de Saint-Ouen l’Aumône, in the suburbs of Paris, by barge to Ville de Lyon and then transported by barge to the port of Ville de Fos-sur-Mer, the new transformer for the Boutre substation ended its journey this week in Vinon-sur-Verdon (Var).
The convoy took a tricky route alternating between narrow and winding roads and a technically difficult crossing over the Canal de Provence. Before this crossing the weight distribution over the entire load had to be studied precisely, requiring the trailer to be lengthened, from 18 to 24 axles for the crossing.
This transformer was transported in record time by teams from the Réseau de Transport d’Électricité, Electricity Transmission Network Management, and supported by the French Government, to replace equipment that was destroyed by a fire in the substation this summer.
Once installed, the transformer will ensure the security of the region’s power supply this winter.
RTÉ thanks all the teams and companies involved!
