EEW SPC will process a total of around 141,000t of steel at their Rostock site for the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind projects. The monopiles will all have a diameter of 10m.

“We are delighted that we are now managing our fifth offshore wind project for Vattenfall as part of our well established partnership. This project also contributes to the further expansion of renewable energies in the German North Sea,” says Sebastian Mönnich, Head of Project Management at EEW SPC, who has managed all five Vattenfall projects to date.

Pending a final investment decision, which is expected in 2025, offshore construction for Nordlicht 1 and 2 is anticipated to begin in 2026, with full operational status expected by 2028. Vattenfall is developing and building the Nordlicht cluster, with BASF as a key partner owning 49% of the projects. Production at the Rostock plant is planned from the end of 2025 to mid-2027.
The 980 MW Nordlicht 1 offshore wind farm will have 68 monopiles; Nordlicht 2, with a 630 MW connection, will proudly stand on 44 foundations. Scheduled for commissioning in 2028, the projects in the German North Sea will generate enough green energy to meet the electricity demands of over 1.7 million German households.
