Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s MV Tannauser Ready to Set Sail
The newest addition to our series of HERO vessels, MV Tannhauser is scheduled to make her maiden voyage from Asia to Europe.
Casper, Phillips & Associates Inc., CP&A, accepted a scope of work to deliver a structural review and design assistance from China’s Dalian Huarui Heavy Industry Group Co. Ltd. (DHHI). CP&A was challenged with finding a solution for increasing the strength of certain design elements.
DHHI recently completed manufacture of the crane barge with twin 1,750t booms positioned side by side. The 128 long booms can be used either individually or in tandom to lift loads of up to 32m high with a 50m x 50m foot print to a maximum height of 40.5m.
CP&A offers a wide variety of services, including procurement, specification, modification, and accident investigation. On this project they analyzed the crane and reported the reaction forces at the crane boom pin connections to enable the optimum foundation design.
Richard Phillips, mechanical engineer at CP&A, said: “The analysis was rather complex; we had to use a special pipe-to-pipe connection post-processor that we created in-house.”
