News
Safe Lifting Europe B.V. take their best pictures when the sky is bright and blue! They like to look at the similarities in the photograph, here they see two companies specialised in Heavy Lifting and one complements the other.
Both companies are thinking green, one is powered by LNG and the other is a rental company always looking for the most environmentally friendly options available in all aspects.
And finally, both companies handle big loads, even bigger loads ,and the BIGGEST LOADS.
New Premises in 2023
The Safe Lifting team still rubs their eyes every now and then to make sure they are not dreaming. Safe Lifting is a family business in the heavy lifting sector with large and heavy materials that take up a lot of space. Growlers (steel cables), slings, shackles, spreaders, winches (winches), hydraulic equipment, hoists, to name a few, all need a lot of space, and now at their new premises on Edisonstraat in Vlaardingen there is enough space for them all. Space enough for all the large and heavy lifting equipment that the company has available, mainly for the offshore wind energy sector.
Giovani Vroegop is excited about the move made earlier this year. “At our old location on the Schiedamsedijk we did not have enough space. When we saw the possibility to take 15,000m² at the Edisonstraat premises, we grabbed it immediately.”
Both Giovani and his father knew that this was what was needed for the family business. The colour green now predominates on one side of this street in Schiedam. The colour of Safe Lifting. The large new warehouses, the associated office building and the open grounds all offer so many more storage options that even rental of space to third parties is possible.
Large companies in the offshore sector use the rental option for their heavy lifting equipment at Safe Lifting. ‘We rent everything under the hook’ is often said at this successful rental company.
Giovani Vroegop explains, “We have both short-term rental and long-term leases for our materials, but we retain ownership in all cases, working with the best manufacturers in the lifting industry to purchase our equipment. We are proud of the quality of the materials we have in-house.”
The larger storage space offers many advantages. Giovani Vroegop: “Now we can handle all materials neatly, storing them sorted and picking them up again when needed. At the previous location we had to move other pieces of equipment first before reaching what was needed. We can do a lot more as a result of working faster, our reaction speed has become shorter. This is important for the offshore industry where escalating time adds to costs. The larger work area has another benefit, their team also enjoys their work much more. They no longer have to work outside in bad weather as before.”
One thing that has not changed, however, is the strategic location in the Port of Rotterdam which enables increased efficiency and a guarantee of an even faster delivery.
The new location also means much more office space in the office building that is still being renovated. Included in the office building is a fully equipped extra-large man cave. Great for the team on Friday afternoon, and for the loyal customers to join in. If that still isn’t enough, there’s the gym available for the employees. It is already in full use and gives the concept of Safe Lifting a completely different dimension, but one that has becomes greatly appreciated.

Modulift Launch New MOD 1100/2000t Spreader Beam with Safe Lifting Europe BV
The new MOD 1100/2000t spreader beam at 33m span, which was the latest addition to Modulift’s modular range of popular DNV Type Approved spreader beams, has been used in it’s very first lift in Dover in the UK. The successful first lift was carried out by its new owner, heavy lifting rental company, Safe Lifting Europe BV for their customer Bonn & Mees Floating Cranes.
The new Modular spreader beam was transported using two trucks from the yard of Safe Lifting Europe B.V to Bonn & Mees Floating Cranes in Rotterdam. Bonn & Mees Floating Cranes used two of their largest floating sheerlegs to lift and store the MOD 1100/2000t spreader beam before it was shipped to Dover where the spreader beam would be lifting two parts of a bridge.
As part of the lifting configuration, an additional two Modulift MOD 400 spreader beams were used. The assembly of the MOD 1100/2000 took the team at Safe Lifting Europe B.V one full working day using an electric torque wrench, enabling them to work at a much faster pace.
Giovani Vroegop, Technical Commercial Manager for Safe Lifting Europe B.V said, “It was incredible to see the new MOD 1100/2000t spreader beam up in the air for the first time. The team at Modulift did a great job with the design and manufacture of the beam. The sheer size of the beam can only be really appreciated when you’re up close, it really is huge. Our team and Bonn & Mees Floating Cranes worked meticulously hard to ensure the lift was a success.”
John Baker, Commercial Director for Modulift said, “We were delighted to be a part of this success and look forward to seeing the MOD 1100/2000t being used in many more lifts in the future. Part of the project to supply this ‘beast’ of a beam, required Modulift’s compressive test bed to be extended to 33m and increased in capacity to 2300t which was quite a project in itself! The MOD 1100 /2000t spreader beam really is impressive to see and our in-house engineering team are already looking at further opportunities with Safe Lifting in the super heavy lifting market. Watch this space.”
