Case Study – Osprey On Dumbarton Rail Bridge Replacement
Osprey have successfully completed the removal and replacement of an old rail bridge on Bonhill Road, Dumbarton over a weekend possession. The old bridge was removed using the SPMT trailer and gantry system.

With restricted access in the immediate area of the bridge, the site compound was located approximately 1 mile away. A detailed route analysis was needed in order to provide the client with a fully engineered transportation report.
The old bridge was removed using the integral hydraulics on the SPMT and then transported to the site compound using the transportation report to ensure safe, efficient manoeuvre. The new bridge was then loaded on to the SPMT from ground level using our jacking system which removed risk associated with working at height.
The detailed route analysis ensured the safe and efficient delivery of the bridge to the site. Once on site the bridge was then installed on to the prepared abutments.
Working closely with the client we were able to allow for weight increases prior to transportation of the new bridge. This helped to save both time and cost as the need for additional works once the bridge was in place was removed.
