Case Study – Osprey Deliver Tunnel Bore for Hinkley Point C
Osprey specialist operator in lift, land, marine and logistics were heavily involved with delivering some of the longest, widest and tallest kit arriving to the Hinkley Point C project. With headquarters situated locally in Somerset, the Osprey team has used its local knowledge and industry experience to benefit the project for the past seven years. Osprey work regularly as either subject matter experts or provide operational support on key parts of the build.
Two huge Tunnel Boring Machines, which were transported by coaster from Rotterdam to the UK were moved by Osprey to Hinkley Point C. The full solution delivery, of these impressive machines, offered use of Osprey’s fleet of heavy mobile cranes, barges and Self Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT) to ensure a first class delivery. As part of the solution, Osprey also carried out a comprehensive route survey.
Tom Barrett – the HPC Project Manager Tunnels, “Working alongside Osprey and Balfour Beatty has created a shared knowledge and expertise that can be used for future works at Hinkley Point C – particularly an effective chain of communication thanks to regular contact with all Tier contractors”
Safely completing the first barge delivery for Hinkley Point C was a significant milestone that will pave the way for future marine deliveries. We worked closely with Hinkley Point C and Balfour Beatty teams, and the result is a credit to the hard work of everyone involved. We’ve succeeded because of collaboration and a good measure of determination.
